The Six Pillars of Instruction

Picture
Our resources are designed by teachers and were initially used in their classrooms to address individual or group needs. These resources are voluntarily shared with other teachers through the Curriculum Centre. To ensure the quality of the resources, they are presented in a standardized format and focus on the Six Pillars of Instruction:

  •  Clearly defined objectives,
  •  Differentiated instruction,
  •  Accommodation of learning styles,
  •  Independent learning opportunities,
  •  Continuous learning, and
  •  Application of higher-level thinking skills
Each of the documents contains information that allows a teacher to quickly ascertain whether the document is right for his instructional needs. The grade, the subject and the specific topic is readily identified along with the explicit objective of the activity. The purpose of the resource is clearly identified so that both the teacher and the student know the intent of the activity and how it is meant to engage the learner. To further assist the learning process, each resource is identified as one of the following:
  • Part A - a pre-test
  • Part B - a self learning activity
  • Part C - a practice session
  • Part D  - a post-test - or
  • Part E - an application of the content using Bloom's taxonomy -
Our objective-based activities and worksheets can be used to initiate, remediate or accelerate learning outcomes for students at all levels of abilities. They can help students who:
  • are working at grade level so that they can maintain their skills;
  • are working below grade level so that they can "catch up";
  • are working above grade level and need enrichment;
  • are absent from school due to accident, illness or extended holidays;

Members are encouraged to check the site daily to ensure that they do not miss an activity that is suitable for their students.
